Paul David Hewson, KBE (born 10 May 1960), most commonly known by his stage name Bono, is an Irish singer and musician, best known for being the main vocalist of the Dublin-based rock band U2.
Bono's struggle with pride, his political activism, his artistic life are all rooted and informed by his Christian faith. Bono claims it's his experience of faith that gives him peace beneath the noise and activity of his life -- a sense of God that draws him to try and catch each sunrise and retrieve a sense of being reborn each day.
Yet despite all his influence among the wealthy and famous, Bono's greatest impact arguably lies with the millions of ordinary individuals whose lives he has touched and transformed, many of whom have been inspired by him to try and make the world a better place.
What can I give back to God for the blessings he's poured out on me? I'll lift high the cup of salvation - a toast to God! Topics: Blessings, Salvation | God has some really weird kids. Topics: Christians | The idea that there's a force of love and logic behind the universe is overwhelming to start with, if you believe it. Actually, maybe even far-fetched to start with, but the idea that that same love and logic would choose to describe itself as a baby born in straw and poverty is genius, and brings me to my knees, literally. To me, as a poet, I am just in awe of that. It makes some sort of poetic sense. It's the thing that makes me a believer, though it didn't dawn on me for many years. Topics: Christmas | Distance does not decide who is your brother and who is not. The church is going to have to become the conscience of the free market if it's to have any meaning in this world - and stop being its apologist. Topics: Church | I'm not doubting. I don't doubt God. I have firm faith absolutely in God. It's religion I'm doubting. Topics: Faith, Religion | And yet, along comes this idea called Grace to upend all that "as you reap, so will you sow" stuff. Grace defies reason and logic. Love interrupts, if you like, the consequences of your actions, which in my case is very good news indeed, because I've done a lot of stupid stuff.I'm holding out for Grace. I'm holding out that Jesus took my sins onto the Cross, because I know who I am, and I hope I don't have to depend on my own religiosity. Topics: Grace |
| I am a friend to God, a sworn enemy of the saccharine and a believer in grace over karma. Topics: Grace | I often wonder if religion is the enemy of God. It's almost like religion is what happens when the Spirit has left the building. Topics: Holy Spirit, Religion | If I could put it simply, I would say that I believe there's a force of love and logic in the world, a force of love and logic behind the universe. And I believe in the poetic genius of a creator who would choose to express such unfathomable power as a child born in "straw poverty"; i.e., the story of Christ makes sense to me. Topics: Love | It's not enough to rage against the lie...you've got to replace it with the truth. Topics: Lying, Truth | The idea of turning your music into a tool for evangelism is missing the point. Music is the language of the spirit anyway. Its first function is praise to creation. Topics: Music | All the best songs are co-written by God, y'know! Topics: Music |
